With its YZ-derived, five titanium valve, short-stroke rocket ship of an engine, the YZF has no shortage of punch. But a good engineer knows that power means nothing without control, and that’s exactly how ours have made the YFZ450 the race-winning, magazine shootout-winning legend it is. A crisp, linear throttle response is mated to an ultra-compact, lightweight, high-tensile steel frame mounting fully adjustable suspension and state-of-the-art brakes.
The result was an outstanding power-to-weight ratio, and what a legion of fans consider to be the fastest, best handling race-bred ATV ever produced.
Key Features:
High-performance 39mm Keihin FCR flat-slide carburettor with throttle position sensor (TPS) delivers ultra-precise fuel/air mixing and crisp, accurate throttle modulation.
Large-capacity radiator is optimally mounted in the frame to guard against damage. Dry-sump engine carries oil in an aluminium tank directly in front of the engine for excellent cooling and optimal protection from rocks or mud.
Additional weight-saving engine features include: magnesium cylinder head cover and right-side crankcase cover; small-design cam chain tensioner and oil pump; aluminium oil hose; and light CDI ignition unit.
Independent aluminium upper A-arm front suspension features competition-spec piggyback shocks with 9.1 inches of travel and adjustable preload, rebound and high- and low-speed compression damping.
Trick, works-style clutch lever features oversize barrel adjuster for easy, no-tool adjustability of lever/cable play.
Numerous aluminium components—including the swingarm, upper A-arms, oil tank, grab bars and wheels—help keep overall dry weight down to a paltry 350 pounds.

The YZF’s snorting 449cc liquid-cooled, DOHC five titanium valve four-stroke, features 95mm bore and 63.4mm stroke dimensions for ultra low reciprocating mass – ultra fast revs.
Lightweight front and rear master cylinders, combined with twin 161mm front discs with twin-piston callipers and single 200mm rear disc, deliver super-pucker stopping power with progressive control and feel.
Ultra-rigid cast aluminium swingarm transmits maximum power to the track as well as reducing weight. An eccentric chain adjuster mechanism provides quick action chain adjustment.
Dual 30-watt multi-reflector halogen headlights set back in the front cowl add the perfect menacing appearance. Taillight has an incorporated brake light for added convenience.
